KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University softball team takes a break from conference play to host Dominican College on Tuesday, April 16 at North Campus Field beginning at 2:30 p.m.
The game will be broadcast live on the Golden Bear Network with
Adam Dobrowolski calling all the action. Listeners throughout the world can listen to the game live on KU's website at
www.kubears.com.
LAST TIME OUT: Kutztown continued to play strong its 14-game homestand by sweeping rival West Chester, 1-0 and 10-2 (five innings). The pair of wins vaulted the Golden Bears into sole possession of second place with six games left in PSAC East play. KU's pitching, working very strong as of late, benefitted from both
Dominique Ficara (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional (Hofstra)) and
Mary Kociencki (Columbia, N.J./Sparta ). Ficara threw a five-hit shutout in Game 1, while Kociencki retired the first 10 batters she faced and allowed only four hits in her Game 2 victory. The offense surged in Game 2 and secured the early triumph by plating six runs in the fifth inning to win by rule.
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME: With Sunday's sweep over the Golden Rams, KU improved to 9-1 in games played at North Campus Field. The homestand seems to have helped the Golden Bears back to their winning ways, when they started 9-2 on the season. In the homestand, the team's lone loss came in a crossover game against IUP, when they lost Game 1 by a 5-3 score. Kutztown still has six more home games left in the regular season, including the two today.
FAMILIAR FOES: On the surface, the Dominican clean sheet in the CACC might look like something very worrisome to the Golden Bears. However, KU owns similar success against CACC teams. The Golden Bears earned sweeps earlier this year against Holy Family, Felician and Goldey-Beacon. The only losses KU suffered to the CACC were the two dropped decisions at Georgian Court on April 3. Those two losses came by a combined three runs.
