KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's swimming team finished third overall at the Golden Bear Invitational Saturday, led by junior
Caitlin Davies (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) winning two individual events and teaming up with senior
Elizabeth Metz (Rosemont, PA/Radnor), junior
Jessica Bleiler (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern), and senior
Zoe Sianis (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) for a third win on the day for the Golden Bears.
Davies won the 200-free, beating her previous Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying time (2:00.35) by 1.01 seconds to finish in 1:59.34. She went on to win the 100-free, earning a PSAC qualifying time in her third event this season, finishing in 54.76. She also joined the KU 'A' team with Metz, Bleiler, and Sianis to win the 400-free relay with a time of 3:46.43.
With a withstanding PSAC qualifying time, Metz finished second in the 1650-free in 18:23.22. Also finishing second, the KU 'A' team comprised of sophomore
Samantha Scialpi (West Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area), senior
Natalie Carr (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area), Bleiler, and Davies completed the 200-medley relay in 1:55.42.
The Golden Bears saw multiple third place finishes including Bleiler grabbing the bronze in both the 100-fly (1:01.73), and the 200-fly (2:21.39), Metz finishing the 200-free in 2:04.55, and Carr's 1:13.30 finish in the 100-breast.
Scialpi completed the 100-back in third place with a career-best time of 1:06.48, and freshman
Caitlyn Falguera (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) finished third in the 200-back with a season-best time of 2:24.43.
Kutztown completed the two-day meet with 464 points. East Stroudsburg held onto its first place ranking, finishing with 637, followed by Montclair State with 610. Salisbury came in fourth with 314 points, while Ocean County (26) rounded out the top five.
The Golden Bears return to action when they travel to Franklin & Marshall College on Friday, Nov. 22, to begin competition in the Franklin & Marshall Invite beginning at 6:30 p.m. The meet continues Saturday, Nov. 23, at 10 a.m., and wraps up Sunday, Nov. 24, also starting at 10 a.m.
