KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University football team led from start to finish in a 41-10 victory over Edinboro University on Saturday afternoon in the team's season-finale at University Field. Kutztown ended its season on a three-game winning streak and having won four of its final five games.

"It shows you the great character of our kids," head coach Drew Folmar said of his team responding from a 0-5 start. "Our kids continued to work and develop, and I think it showed over the course of the season. We got better in numerous areas, and it began to show with wins."

The Golden Bears (4-7) honored 12 members of their senior class before the game against the Fighting Scots (5-6). Among them were Matt Connors (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity), Alex DiNolfi (Norristown, PA/Norristown), Dan Mummau (Hummelstown, PA/Central Dauphin), Chase Fraley (Elysburg, PA/Southern Columbia), Matt Pirolli (Warminster, PA/William Tennent), Matt Galloway (Elverson, PA/St. Pius X), Alex Atiyeh (Schnecksville, PA/Bethlehem Catholic (Boston College)), Justin Michalak (Dover, PA/Northeastern), Curtis Wortham (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge), Nathan Fehr (Bernville. PA/Conrad Weiser), Brett Fox (Laureldale, Pa./Muhlenburg), and Alex Wagner (Reading, PA/Reading).

Notably, this year's senior class graduates as the most successful class in Kutztown school history. Since making its first-ever NCAA playoff appearance in 2010, Kutztown held a 32-15 record since the start of the 2010 season.

"I'm proud of our team and the way they competed; it's hard not to say this wasn't our best game of the season," Folmar said. "Our kids were prepared, and came out ready to go. We had some bumps in the road and were a bit sloppy at times, but the kids fought hard and found a way to win."

Kutztown's defense turned in one of its most inspiring performances of the season against a physical Edinboro attack. It's only allowed touchdown came off a drive in which Edinboro started at Kutztown's 22-yard line. Zachary Delp led the unit defensively at his starting linebacker position. He had a team-high nine tackles and hauled in two interceptions. He ends the season with three interceptions, the only Golden Bear with more than one.

Kutztown blocked two field goals for the second time this season (Clarion). Michael Gallagher (Clarksboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and Jake Wygant (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) each blocked kicks against the Fighting Scots.

Offensively, senior running back Curtis Wortham (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) closed out his career with his best game of the season. On 20 carries, he ran for a game-high 132 yards and two touchdowns. Wortham will always remember his final carry of his collegiate career, when he broke numerous tackles and ran 39 yards for a touchdown with 2:01 to play in the game.

"I will always remember that run as the best moment of my career," Wortham said of his final touchdown run.

Looking back at Wortham's career, Saturday marked his seventh 100-yard rushing game of his career. In rushing categories, he ranks fourth in school history with 24 rushing touchdowns and eighth in yardage with 2,146. In kick returns, he ranks third with 1,365 yards and fourth with 58 returns.

"Knowing that this might be the last time I ever get to play this game, I came in today with an all-or-nothing mindset," Wortham said. "I knew I had to do everything I could for my team, my coaches, myself, and to be sure I left it all out on the field."

Quarterback Josh Luckenbaugh (York, Pa./Dallastown) turned in the most effective passing performance of his career. In his fifth consecutive and career start, he completed 26 of his 34 passes for a 76 percent completion percentage. He threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns and did not turn the ball over.

His top target was receiver Kodi Reed (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic), who hauled in a team-high 99 yards and two touchdowns. Reed's touchdown catches came on seven and eight-yard scores, as he closes his season with nine touchdowns. It ties him for seventh in school history for a single season, and his 15 career touchdown catches ranks him 10th all-time in school history. Reed still has two seasons with the Golden Bears, and will need eight touchdown catches in his final two seasons to tie the record of 23 set by Mark Steinmeyer in 1991.

In single-season receptions, Reed finished with 60 catches, a career-high and tied for eighth in school history.

Receiver Anthony Kelly (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) hauled in a career-high 87 yards and brought in a 40-yard touchdown catch-and-run up the middle early in the second quarter. True freshman Alex Tonnies (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) had four catches to improve his season total to 76, second all-time in school history for a single season. It is the most by a true freshman in school history.

Senior kicker Nathan Fehr (Bernville. PA/Conrad Weiser) booted a pair of field goals in the victory. Two weeks after notching a career-high 42-yarder against Millersville, Fehr kicked a 41- and 26-yard field goal for his first multiple field goal game of his career.

Punter Andrew Deutsch (Kutztown, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) joined Fehr in special teams and had some terrific punts to keep Kutztown ahead in the battle for field position. Three of his five kicks were inside the 10-yard line, two of which were inside the 3-yard line.

Kutztown dominated the time of possession with a season-high 36:58. It opened the game by holding the ball for more than 10 minutes of the first quarter, and closed the game with a time-of-possession of 9:58 including a game-high 12-play, 66-yard drive capped with Fehr's second field goal of the game.

English Peay (Philadelphia, Pa./George Washington) tallied seven tackles and a pair of pass breakups. He concludes the season with 64 tackles, two shy of his career-high set in 2011.

While playing with numerous underclassmen this season may have been a hitch in Kutztown's 'giddy up', it will only become an asset moving forward. Coach Folmar will enter his second season at the helm of the Golden Bears for their 99th season in program history.
