Women's Tennis Outshined By Edinboro

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's tennis team fell to Edinboro University on Saturday afternoon, 7-2, at the Keystone Courts.
 
The Golden Bears (0-3) had sole victories in doubles and singles matches over the Fighting Scots (4-1).
 
In doubles, sophomore Chelsea Davis (Spring City, Pa./Spring-Ford) and freshman Alyssa Konas (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) paired up to defeat Edinboro's RyAnne Baldwin and Nevena Kulina in a close match 9-7.
 
The duo of junior Hannah Pipkin (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) and senior Tori Zander (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) (8-3), and partners freshman Zachara Harley (Wyndmoor, PA/Springfield) and junior Cynthia Good (Montrose, Pa./Elk Lake) (8-2) suffered setbacks in doubles play.
 
In singles play, Zander went to three sets after a close loss in the first set (7-5) to Edinboro's Raquel Holiday, but she pulled through for the win and took the second and third sets 6-2, 6-2.
 
Pipkin took her first set over Edinboro's Oranza Carrillo 6-2, but fell behind in the second set 6-4, and lost the tie breaker in a close set 10-8.
 
Harley (6-1, 6-2), Davis (6-2, 6-2), Konas (7-6, 6-4), and Erika Diffendall (Mountville, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) (6-2, 6-3) also suffered defeats in singles play.
 
The Golden Bears return to action on Friday, Oct. 11, to face La Salle University for a 3 p.m. start at Keystone Courts.
