Box Score MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Kutztown University's
Micah Fraction (Macungie, PA/Montrose Christian) and
Tyler Brooks (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) combined for 48 points, but Millersville outlasted the Golden Bears 74-68 in double overtime in PSAC East action.
Fraction scored 28 points, hit 6-of-14 threes and had four steals. Brooks was 6-of-8 from the field on his way to 20 points and added five rebounds and four assists in the game. Both players went 8-of-8 from the free throw line.
Larry Grant scored a game-high 30 points off the bench for Millersville.
Kutztown led 50-44 after a three by Fraction with 5:39 to play, but the Marauders reeled off nine straight points to take a 53-50 lead with 18 seconds left in regulation. Kutztown answered with a three by Fraction with just four seconds remaining to send things to overtime.
MU jumped ahead by five after a jumper by Xavier Mumford with 2:58 left in the first overtime, but two free throws by Brooks and another three by Fraction tied the game with 1:03 to go, 62-59.
Both teams had chances after that as a jumper by Larry Grant missed the mark for Millersville with 31 seconds to play and a late three by KU's
Ryan Connolly (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) missed with four seconds to go, sending things to another extra period.
Fraction gave the Golden Bears a 64-62 lead with 4:31 left in double overtime, but Grant scored eight of the game's next nine points as the Marauders took control, 71-64, with 16 seconds left.
Brooks and Fraction combined for all the early scoring as the Golden Bears opened the game with a 15-4 run in the opening nine minutes of play.
Kutztown hit 19-of-21 free throws as a team (91 percent).
Connolly led KU with 11 rebounds, while Tracy Peal hauled in 10 to help Kutztown outrebound the Marauders 43-40.
Daniel Mack (Philadelphia, PA/Paul Robeson) came off the bench for eight points on 4-of-5 shooting and five rebounds.
In addition to Grant's big day for MU, Brandon Brown scored 13 points and Elijah Obade and Anthony Coleman had 10 apiece. Obade had a huge game on the glass with 17 boards.
Kutztown's defense limited the Marauders to just 36 percent from the field and 6-of-34 from three-point range (18 percent).
KU returns home to host Mansfield in a PSAC East contest on Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
