KU Bested by Edinboro in Overtime

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team fell to Edinboro in overtime on Saturday afternoon, 3-2.
 
A corner kick by Edinboro's Kelsey Knoll gave opportunity to Stephanie Tighe to score from directly in front of the net at the end of the seventh minute for the first goal of the game.
 
Keeping up in offensive play, KU's Rae Carpenter (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) passed to Diana Malanga (Lavallette, N.J./St. Rose), who scored in the 17th minute, striking from the ball from eight yards out.
 
The Golden Bears continued to hold the offensive advantage for the majority of the rest of the first half, raining down shots until Tess Arbegast (Carlisle, PA/Big Spring) utilized a pass from Samantha Busillo.  Arbegast shot from 20 yards out, scoring the second goal for KU with only six seconds remaining before the intermission.
 
The Fighting Scots' Knoll picked up her second assist of the day when she found Liz Debo, who scored the second goal for Edinboro in the 60th minute, evening out the score.
 
The 2-2 tie held until the end of the second half, causing the game to go into overtime.
 
In the 98th minute, a pass from the corner by Edinboro's Jenna Madison gave opportunity to Karisa Fernandez to score the winning goal.
 
Edinboro held the shot advantage by one shot, with 19 to KU's 18.
 
KU goalkeeper Jess Campbell (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) made 10 saves in her first game of the season.
 
The Golden Bears return home for a game against Millersville on Wednesday, October 3, for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
