KUTZTOWN, Pa. –
With the teams tied 4-4, Kutztown University's Rachel Grula (Drums, PA/Hazleton Area) (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) and Millersville's Kara Fisher battled into a third set with Grula lifting the Golden Bears to a 5-4 win over the Marauders in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference First Round.

After Grula won the first set at third singles 6-2, Fisher claimed the second set 6-1 before Grula put away the opposition with a 6-2 win in set three.

The win launched KU into the semifinals, where they will face the West No. 1 seed, California (Pa.), in a match to be played at Bloomsburg on Friday, April 20 at noon.

The Vulcans had a bye in the first round.

Grula's decisive win at third singles was one of two singles matches to go into three sets.  Ridhima Borooah (Guwahati-Assam, India/Modern School; Barakhamba Road; New Delhi) (Guwahati, India/Modern School) won 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 at second singles after losing the first set to Samantha Prager.

Hannah Pipkin (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) was a winner in straight sets over Melissa Plowman, 7-6, 6-2 at first singles.  At sixth singles, Tori Zander (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) notched a 6-2, 7-5 victory against Anna Ageyeva.

The Golden Bears had trailed 2-1 after doubles play before winning four of six singles matches against Millersville.  Grula and Stefanie Fisher (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) defeated Elizabeth Wagner and Alexandra Heller at third doubles, 8-1.

Kutztown's trip to the PSAC semifinals will be the first since 2010 for the Golden Bears.  KU faced Cal that season, as well, with the Vulcans winning 5-1.
