KUTZTOWN, Pa. (March 2, 2012)— Senior
Kayla Jones (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop ) (Johnstown, Pa./ Westmont Hilltop) was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Bowler of the Week, announced on Friday morning.
Jones has been Kutztown's leader throughout the 2011-12 season and it was no different at this past weekend's Pennsylvania State Championships.
Now a senior, the 2009 NEC Rookie of the Year spearheaded an effort that resulted in the Golden Bears successfully defending the PA State title they earned last year. The Keystone State native averaged 20.3 pins per frame over a seven-match span. Jones put forth a 200 game average over the course of five traditional team matches on the tournament's first day.
Jones was even better in Sunday's best-of-seven championship baker play that ended with Kutztown pulling out a 4-to-3 victory over NEC rival Saint Francis (PA). Jones converted 81.5 percent of her spare attempts and left only nine open frames throughout the weekend. Playing on a tough shot at Holiday Bowl in Altoona, Jones accounted for an .898 filled frame percentage.
Kutztown will compete in its final NEC match on Saturday, March 3 beginning at noon at Parkway Lanes in Elmwood Park , NJ.
