No. 15 Catawba Clips Kutztown, 7-3

Box Score

SALISBURY, N.C. – Kutztown could not overcome a pair of homers by No. 15 Catawba's Chris Dula as the Indians took a 7-3 final from the Golden Bears in the first game of KU's spring break road trip.

An RBI double by Shayne Houck (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) in the top of the first drove in Cody Montz (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Schuylkill Haven) (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Schuylkill Haven), who walked to lead off the game, to give Kutztown (7-3) an early 1-0 lead.

Cameron Beard singled in a run for Catawba and Brett Underwood had a sacrifice fly, all in the bottom of the second inning to put the Indians on top 2-1.

Dula and Garrett Furr both went deep in the third to extend the lead to 4-1.

The Golden Bears cut the deficit to just one in the fifth, when Matt Albaugh (Hatfield, PA/North Penn) (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) ripped a two-run shot to left that scored Houck.

Catawba (19-5) pulled away in the bottom half of the inning, however.  Ethan Satterfield drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and JJ Jankowski added an RBI single to make it 6-3.  Dula's second home run of the day capped the scoring in the sixth.

Albaugh was the lone Golden Bear with a multi-hit day, going 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and two RBIs.  Montz and Houck each had a hit and a walk in the contest.

Dula had three hits on the day, scoring three times and driving in a pair.  Julio Zubillaga, Satterfield and Beard each had two hits.

Clay Watson picked up the win in relief as the third of six Indian pitchers on the afternoon.

Dominick Ruscitti (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville-Newbaugh/Dominican College) (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville-Newbaugh) suffered his first loss of the season.  He allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks.  He struck out two batters in four innings.

Tom Neely (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) tossed scoreless eighth and ninth innings to close things out for KU.

Kutztown will look to rebound against Shaw on Tuesday, March 13 at 1 p.m. in Raleigh, North Carolina.
