1,000-point Scorers to be Honored Saturday

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University senior men's basketball players Nate Edwards (Philadelphia, PA/North Catholic) (Philadelphia, PA/North Catholic) and Eric Brennan (Chester, PA/West Catholic) (Chester, PA/West Catholic) will be honored for reaching the 1,000-point mark in their careers on Saturday, Feb. 18 before their game with first place Bloomsburg University.

Tipoff against the Huskies in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup is set for 3 p.m.  Fans can follow the game with live stats by clicking here. WHLM Radio out of Bloomsburg will also be covering the game and can be accessed by clicking here.

The Golden Bears (15-8 overall, 12-7 PSAC) currently sit one game behind Bloomsburg (17-7, 13-6) and have a chance to take the number one spot away from BU for the second time this season.  KU holds the advantage on Bloom by picking up a road victory on Jan. 28, 74-65.  East Stroudsburg (16-9, 12-7) and West Chester (14-9, 11-8) each secured their places in the playoffs with wins on Wednesday.

KU is coming off a lopsided, 85-59 win over Cheyney University Wednesday night.  Edwards dropped a game-high 25 points and shot 4-of-4 from beyond the arc to lead the Golden Bears.  He has 12 20-point games this season and is third in the PSAC in scoring at 18.9 per clip.

Edwards is the 22nd 1,000 point scorer in KU history.  He scored his 1,000th point on Dec. 31 in KU's win over the University of the Sciences.  He is currently in 11th place with 1,241 points and is 13 away from moving into the top ten.  He has scored a career-high 29 points three times this season.

A two-year member of the Golden Bears, Brennan has totaled 1,265 points in his career.  He scored his 1,000th point on Nov. 19 in a win over Clarion.  He is averaging 13.3 points per game this season and has scored in double figures in 19 of his 23 games.  His highest total of the year was a 20-point performance against West Chester on Feb. 8.

Also chipping in on the offensive end on a nightly basis have been Devon McBride (Richmond, VA/Hill School) (Richmond, VA/Hill School) and Micah Fraction (Macungie, PA/Montrose Christian) (Macungie, PA/Montrose Christian).  McBride leads all scorers in the PSAC with 20.8 per game and is third in 3-pointers made (57).  Fraction scores 15.8 per game, good for 11th in the conference.

McBride led the team when KU made the trip to Bloomsburg earlier this season.  He scored 32 for the second consecutive game and shot 50 percent from the field.  Kutztown gave up a 16-point second half lead, but overcame the late Huskie run to secure its ninth win in a row.  All but four points came from KU's starting five.  BU was led by senior center Larry Webster who had 13 points and eight rebounds.

Bloomsburg enters the matchup off an 81-60 win over Mansfield.  Trevon Johnson became BU's 25th 1,000-point scorer as the Huskies were led by Lorenzo Christmas' season-high 20 points.

Sophomore Dontahe Jordan is averaging a team-best 16 points per game and is tenth in the conference.  He is second in the PSAC in free throw percentage (.873) despite the team ranking second to last in the conference in free throw percentage (.637).  Webster is the team's leading rebounder at 7.7 per game.

Kutztown returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 22 for Senior Night at Keystone Arena.  KU will take on Mansfield University in its final regular season home game of the year at 8 p.m.  KU won the teams' first matchup, 77-65, on Jan. 25.
