YORK, Pa. – When
Robert Fisher took over the Kutztown University wrestling program in 2000, former head coach
Dan Hinkel had more coaching wins than any two other head coaches in Golden Bear history. Eleven years later, KU has a new all-time winningest coach.
Kutztown traveled to York (Pa.), ranked 15th in Division III, and defeated the Spartans 25-14 Friday evening to give Fisher his 125th victory at the helm of KU wrestling. It also pushed him one past Hinkel, now an assistant coach with the Golden Bears, who directed the program from 1966-72 and again from 1989-96.

“When you look back at your career, it's a good feeling,” Fisher observed after setting the record. “I've been fortunate to have some good people around me and good coaches. It's really a testament to our program and how far we've come.”
Coach Fisher was perhaps more excited to get a dual win over a team the caliber of York (Pa.).
“The record aside, it's a great win for our team,” Fisher noted. “York is a really tough team. They're very highly ranked and set the school record for wins in a season with 24 so far. Our guys are really just wrestling great right now and it was good to keep rolling.”
KU (7-4) led 19-10 when
Vinny Campanile (Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley) (Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley) pinned Jeff Goldhagen in 1:31 to clinch the dual win and the record for Coach Fisher. It was the sophomore's team-high 11th win by fall of the season.
The Golden Bears picked up bonus wins in the first two bouts of the evening. At 125,
Desmond Moore (Easton, PA/Easton) (Easton, Pa./Easton) notched a technical fall, his second of the year, against Nick Rea in 6:51 (17-1).
Evan Yenolevich (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh (Edinboro)) (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) followed it up with a 10-0 blanking of Charles Gatz at 133 for his team-best fifth major decision of the year and a 9-0 KU lead.
Leonard Drummond (Easton, PA/Easton) (Easton, Pa./Easton) fought hard against the No. 2 wrestler in Division III, Chris Albright, but fell 2-0 as the Spartans got on the board at 141.
Leading 9-7 heading into the bout at 157,
Bionojel Candelaria's (Reading, Pa./Middletown) 8-0 major decision was the first of three straight wins that stretched the team scoring to 19-7 in favor of Kutztown.
Micah Bollinger (Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg Area) (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) followed with his fifth straight win, a 3-2 decision at 165. At 174,
Ricky Pena (Reading, PA/Reading) (Reading, Pa./Reading) doubled up Jake Siegfried 8-4.
Candelaria's major decision was his fourth of 2011-12.
YCP (24-4) pulled within striking distance when Alex Martocello, ranked second in Division III, pulled out an overtime win at 184, but Campanile made short work of his opponent to seal the Spartans' fate and snap their 11 match win streak.
The win was KU's fourth straight win this season and fifth straight over York, dating back to the 2005-06 season.
