Dan Hinkel completed his 50th year with the Golden Bear wrestling program in 2014-15, dating back to 1964. Hinkel served two stints as head coach, between which and since he served as assistant coach to five different head coaches.
He recorded more than 100 career dual meet victories as head coach, while numerous grapplers qualified for the NCAA Championships under his tutelage.
Hinkel stepped down as head coach in 1996. Well respected in the wrestling community, Hinkel was inducted into the KU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003 and also is a member of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, as well as both the PSAC Wrestling and Lock Haven University halls of fame.
