Box Score KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Despite grabbing a 2-1 advantage after three sets, the Kutztown University women's volleyball team fell in five to Millersville, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at Keystone Arena.
Prior to the start of Saturday's match, head coach
John Gump and Kutztown University honored its four seniors –
Kimberlee Gomber (Washington, PA/Washington),
Brittany Harman (Hanover, PA/South Western),
Brianna Risch (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) and
Dana Wright (Warminster, PA/Saint Basil Academy) – for their hard work and dedication to the program throughout their careers in the Maroon and Gold.
The Golden Bears came out with an edge, taking a close first set, 26-24, but fall in the second set, 25-22. Kutztown would rebound in the third with a 25-14 victory, before the Marauders proved to be too much, taking the fourth and fifth sets, 25-13 and 18-16, en route to the victory.
Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) led the Golden Bears with 14 kills, while
Nicole Brumbley (Oxford, PA/Oxford) added 12 of her own. The duo also put up a strong defensive effort as Brumbley tallied 10 blocks and Stringer had nine.
Chelsea Braga (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach (Fairleigh Dickinson)) paced the team with a match-high 16 digs and Harman (13) and Wright (10) both reached double figures. Wright also went for 20 assists as Gomber had a team-high 22.
As for Millersville, Samantha Agostini led in both digs and kills, notching 15 in each category, while Jessica Franz had a match-high 36 assists.
The match marks the second time this season that the Golden Bears have fallen to Millersville with both meetings going to five sets.
The squad will get back to action on Tuesday when it welcomes Cheyney to Keystone Arena for 7:00 p.m. start time. The Golden Bears had some success in the first meeting, sweeping the Wolves, 3-0, on October 13th.
