Box Score KUTZTOWN, Pa. – On an ideal day for field hockey, the Kutztown University Golden Bears honored six seniors as they fell to No. 2 West Chester, 4-0, at University Field. For the seventh time this season,
Karly Waltman (Birdsboro, PA/Twin Valley) posted double-digit saves with 13 on the afternoon.
West Chester got things started off early in the contest as Megan Callanan knocked in a rebound just two minutes into the game. From there, the Golden Rams kept up the attack, getting off four more shots before they could net their second goal by Kelsi Lykens off a penalty corner in the ninth minute.
Kutztown would settle down and play solid defense throughout the rest of the first, holding the Rams to two first-half goals.
In the second half, KU tried to get into a rhythm on the offensive end but an early second half goal by WCU build a three-goal lead for the Rams. The Golden Bears would be awarded two penalty corners and put two shots on goal but could not find the back of the cage as Kristin Arnold turned away KU's chances.
WCU tallied one more late-goal in the 65th minute, finalizing the score at 4-0.
Amy Dando (Marysville, PA/Susquenita) had an impressive game on the back line for the Golden Bears, making two defensive saves to give her 11 on the year. The senior's 11 defensive saves etched her name in the record books at KU, putting her third all-time on the single-season defensive saves list.
With 13 saves in between the pipes, Waltman falls to 4-11 on the year while, WCU's Arnold improved to 14-2, making three saves.
The Rams held an advantage in shots on the day, 28-6, and were awarded 10 penalty corners to Kutztown's four.
