KUTZTOWN, Pa. (September 30, 2011) – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team left everything on the floor Friday night before falling to Lock Haven in straight sets in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Keystone Arena.
(BOXSCORE)
The Golden Bears (13-5 overall, 3-4 PSAC) brought fans to their feet time after time Friday in front of a packed house. From a point-saving dive by
Lindsey Smith (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic), to a thunderous kill from
Erin Kissling (York, PA/Central York), KU has no reason to hang its head following the setback.
Kissling drove home a team-high 10 kills while adding eight digs. She is third on the team with 127 kills this season. Fellow seniors
Cait Hess (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) and
Cali Snell (York, PA/York Suburban) also had a strong showing on the front line, recording six and five kills, respectively.
Sophomore
Liz DiValerio (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) has continued to see more playing time as of late and hasn't disappointed head coach
John Gump. She finished with five kills on the night and has tallied 96 kills this season.
Smith led the Golden Bears with 17 digs on the night.
Dana Wright (Warminster, PA/Saint Basil Academy) dished out 13 assists for KU, and
Kimberlee Gomber (Washington, PA/Washington) added eight.
The Bald Eagles (7-6, 4-2) had an outstanding performance from junior Gao Xuan. Xuan had a game-high 18 kills while holding a .455 hitting percentage. Grace Novacek added 13 kills and Erin Walsh racked up a game-high 25 digs.
The Golden Bears will have little turnaround until they next return to action. KU plays host to East Stroudsburg on Saturday for a PSAC matchup beginning at 1 p.m. KU has won three of the last four meetings.
