Kahl's game-winning goal helps KU slide by Slippery Rock 1-0

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (September 24, 2011)—Senior Carolynne Kahl (Bethel, PA/Tuplehocken) scored the game-winning goal to help the Kutztown University women's soccer team slide by Slippery Rock University, 1-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game, Saturday afternoon at Keystone Field. (BOXSCORE)

The Golden Bears improved to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the PSAC. The Rock fell to 3-3-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the PSAC.

With a minute and two seconds remaining, Kahl was clutch for Kutztown in scoring off a corner kick. Kahl's goal zipped into the left side of the net. Numerous cheers and screams of completion roared through Keystone Field. Kahl has two goals on the season and two assists.

“It was good to get the win,” Kahl said. “We played a lot better in the second half than we did in the first half. But we fought it out until the end and got the result that we wanted.”

KU and SRU intensely pressured each other the entire match. Whenever it seemed as if a team would score, the opposing team took those chances away. The well played match-up between both teams, displayed their outstanding defensive efforts.

“Coach gave us a lot of tips at halftime to help us in the second half,” Kahl said. “We weren't winning the balls in the air or connecting passes. We focused more on finishing and capitalizing on opportunities in the second half.”

A lot of Golden Bears saw action in the game, indicating Kutztown's depth and ability to use all of its factors.

KU returns to action when it hosts West Chester University on Wednesday, Sept. 28 starting at 3 p.m at Keystone Field.

“This win is good for us, especially facing West Chester next,” Kahl said. “We're on a two-game winning streak and hopefully we can hold off West Chester.”
