Kutztown drops two games in PSAC Crossover matches

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (September 17, 2011)—The Kutztown University volleyball team dropped Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover matches to Slippery Rock University and California University Saturday afternoon. The crossover games were hosted by California. (KU vs. Slippery Rock Boxscore(KU vs. California Boxscore)

The Golden Bears (11-4 overall, 1-3 PSAC) fell to both SRU(12-0 overall, 2-0 PSAC) and Cal (10-2 overall, 2-0 PSAC) 3-1.

Kutztown faced the Vulcans in the closing match of the PSAC crossover. The set scores were 25-8, 25-23, 25-19, and 25-14.

Brittany Harman (Hanover, PA/South Western) and Liz DiValerio (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) led the Golden Bears in kills with seven each. Harman also added two blocks along with 18 digs. Senior Lindsey Smith (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) had 29 digs against California. Nicole Brumbley (Oxford, PA/Oxford), Cait Hess (Newark, DE/St. Mark's), and Cali Snell (York, PA/York Suburban) combined for 16 block assists. Kutztown averaged 14.5 blocks against the Vulcans.

Against Slippery Rock, KU won the first match 25-18. The final three set scores were 25-15, 25-11, and 25-21.

Hess led Kutztown with a team-high 12 kills. DiValerio and Harman accounted for 14 kills.

Kimberlee Gomber (Washington, PA/Washington) recorded 18 assists against the Rock. Katie Lutz (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle Antrim) and Snell combined for 10 block assists. Smith recorded 28 digs, along with 18 digs from Harman and 16 digs from DiValerio.

The Golden Bears return to action Friday, September 23 when it hosts Millersville University at Keystone Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
