FIVE MINUTES WITH MARISA KALODNER

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (April 8, 2011) – The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team heads to Slippery Rock for a Saturday night contest beginning at 7 p.m. Prior to the team leaving campus, we cornered sophomore Marisa Kalodner (Havertown, PA/Haverford) for five minutes.

Kalodner has been a key member of the Golden Bear defense this season, leading the team with 16 caused turnovers.

Kristen Cornelis: What has been your favorite moment as a Kutztown student-athlete?
Marisa Kalodner (Havertown, PA/Haverford): Bonding with the team and having new experiences.

K.C.: When did you start playing lacrosse?
M.K.: Sixth grade, well it was a new sport and it was middle school so I tried it and when it got tougher a lot of the girls started to drop it, but I stuck with it.

K.C.: What do you like best about Kutztown?
M.K.: I like the people that I met up here because they're just like the people at home.

K.C.: What do you like to do in your spare time?
M.K.: I like to practice make-up and if I wasn't going to college I would have went to beauty school. I practice doing my hair, even when I'm not going out at night.

K.C.: What are you majoring in?
M.K.: Well I just changed it from education to psychology.

K.C.: What are your career aspirations?
M.K.: I want to help girls with eating disorders because my friend had one and I couldn't do anything about it. Also, I used to work at a camp and girls at the age of nine started to have eating disorders like anorexia.

K.C.: What's on your iPod right now?
M.K.: I was just listening to Ciara on my way over here. I like corny girl music, stuff that's easy to dance to.

K.C.: Who do you look up to/inspires you? Why?
M.K.: My mom just because she has to do it on her own and I try to help out as much as I can. So, that made me really independent and she is too, so we're the same person when it comes to taking care of ourselves.

K.C.: What was your favorite away game?
M.K.: The Philadelphia University game. It was on St. Patrick's Day and towards the end of the game we went into overtime and we started scoring back to back. We refused to lose this game. So, we pulled through and won the game in overtime. It just showed how much heart we all have when it comes to situations like that.

K.C.: What is the best advice you have ever received?
M.K.: When I was younger someone told me not to sweat the small stuff and when I got older it seemed really stupid to sweat the small stuff. I try to be more laid back because of that now.

K.C.: If you could meet anybody in the world, who would it be? Why?
M.K.: Tabitha. She goes to different salons and remakes them. If I could get my hair done by her I'd like freak out. It's only in New Jersey, but it's around a 3-month wait just to get an appointment with her, so it'd be a big deal for me.
