Kutztown falls to IUP, 17-10

INDIANA, Pa. (April 15, 2011)-- Rachel Mehaffey (Woodbury, NJ/West Deptford)'s team-high four goals wasn't enough for the Kutztown University women's lacrosse team as it fell to Indiana University 10-17 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game Friday afternoon. (BOXSCORE)

The Golden Bears (5-8 overall, 0-8 PSAC) outscored the Crimson Hawks (10-4 overall, 5-3 PSAC) in the second half 7-6, but IUP's 11-3 advantage at halftime was hard to nudge.

However Kutztown put up a good fighting spirit and received two goals from Megan Schwar (Alpha, NJ/Phillipsburg). Amanda Bushong (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township), Krystine Beodeker (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley), Gina Carmina (Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive), and Lauren Schlitt (Baldwin, NY/Oceanside) each scored.

Rosa Buffolino (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp), Mehaffey, and Emily Solt (Bowmanstown, PA/Concord) each recorded one assist.

Defensively, goalie Joann McLaughlin had 10 saves. The Golden Bears had 17 ground balls. Marisa Kalodner (Havertown, PA/Haverford) led KU in ground balls with four and had help from Emily Savini (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) (3), Justine Simonsen (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland) (3), Schwar (2), Solt (2), Beodeker (1), McLaughlin (1), Mehaffey (1), and Leann Pica (1).

Kutztown travels to Lock Haven University on Saturday, April 16. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
