Henninger's homers help KU sweep Felican College

LYNDURST, NJ. (March 30, 2011)—The Kutztown University softball team used seven hits in the fifth inning against Felician College to cruise its way to a 15-5 win in a non-conference game earlier Wednesday evening at Matera Field.

KU defeated the Golden Falcons in the first game, 5-0 recording its 12th shutout this year. Felician fell to 5-15 overall.

The Golden Bears (26-6 overall) had 11 hits in the second game. Nicole Henninger (Reading, PA./Muhlenberg) definitely had her Wheaties for breakfast Wednesday morning, as she recorded two home runs against the Golden Falcons. In the top of the third inning, Henninger smashed a three-run home run to left field. She came back for an encore performance in the fourth inning and belted a two-run homer to left field again. Henninger leads Kutztown in homers with nine this season. She is currently on an 11 game hitting streak and her seven RBIs that she picked up in this game are a season-high.

Morgan Booth (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) was 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Brianna Knipe (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) also had a multiple hit game with two hits and scored a run. Samantha Derr (Lititz, PA/Warwick), Krista Tedjeske (Summerhill, PA/Forest Hill), Maria Isgro (Galloway, NJ/Absegami), and Heather Hannun each had a hit against Felician. The 15 runs scored in the second game are also a season-high for KU.

Recording the win for Kutztown was Derr who recorded five strikeouts.

Although the first game was much closer, KU came out swinging and amounted for 12 hits. Henninger went 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI, and one run scored. Jackie Hetzler (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township), Tedjeske, and Booth were all 2-for-4 against the Golden Falcons. Hetzler and Tedjeske each recorded one RBI. Scoring for the Golden Bears was Hetzler, Nicole Colineri (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood), Henninger, Knipe, and Booth.

Kutztown's defense helped keep Felician scoreless off of six hits. The Golden Falcons left nine runners on base throughout the first game. Derr struck out six batters and Stephanie Pritchard (Parkesburg, PA/Octorara) enjoyed some time in the circle for KU. Pritchard faced seven batters and recorded one strikeout.

The Golden Bears will return to action when it travels to West Chester University for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader on Friday, April 1. The first game is scheduled to begin at 2:30 pm.
