KUTZTOWN, Pa. (November 6, 2011)— Junior midfielder
Maria Borland (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) of the Kutztown University women's soccer team was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 First Team earlier Sunday afternoon.

Borland, a Business and French major from Hagerstown, Md. holds a 3.87 grade point average.
In addition to her stellar commitment in the classroom, Borland helped the Golden Bears to its fourth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship appearance on Saturday, where they were the runner-up after a 2-1 loss to the 2011 PSAC Champion, California (Pa.).
KU also made its fourth consecutive PSAC playoff appearance. The 2011 team also set a school record for wins in a season (16), when they defeated Slippery Rock, 4-0 in a PSAC semifinal match on Thursday.
Kutztown is currently ranked 17th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top 25 Poll.
Borland leads the Golden Bears in goals with 13 goals and one assist tallying 27 points. Borland has had four multi-goal games and four game winning goals this season. Her game winners came on Oct. 1 against Millersville, Oct. 11 against East Stroudsburg, Oct. 15 over Bloomsburg, and Oct. 22 at Clarion. She recorded two hat tricks this season over Concord on Sept. 3 and Clarion on Oct. 22.
Her speed and flexibility has amounted for 30 shots this year, with 23 being shots-on-goal (SOG). She yields a .433 shot percentage along with a .767 SOG percentage.
Kutztown is ranked second in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Rankings and will look to continue its postseason when the NCAA Selection Show airs on Monday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m., where KU will discover its next opponent.
The 2011 Capital One Academic All-District ® Women's Soccer Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One became the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs in 2011.
First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
