Jones earns All-Tournament team honors at UMES Hawk Classic

MILLSBORO, DE. (November 20, 2011)—Kayla Jones (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop ) was a member of the All-Tournament Team at the final day of competition at the UMES Hawk Classic, hosted by the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore at Millsboro Lanes, Sunday afternoon.

Kutztown slipped to 24-20 overall. KU finished 11th overall at the tournament. Sunday consisted of 3 best-of-seven baker matches. Kutztown went 0-3 on the day after it fell 4-3 to Norfolk State, 4.5-2.5 to Adelphi, and 4-2 to Saint Peter's College.

Jones was placed on the all-tournament team after finishing second out of a field of 203 bowlers. Jones had a total pinfall of 1024 over five games. Her average during the tournament was 204.80.

Jones continues to be a driving factor for the Golden Bears. The veteran has stepped up and made her presence felt during her years at KU.

Also earning all-tournament honors was Anggie Ramirez of UMES (210.80), Joely Carillo of Fairleigh Dickinson University (203.80), T'nia Falbo of UMES (201.40), and Brittni Hamilton of Vanderbilt (200.00).

“We have a lot of work to do during our winter break before the KU Invitational,” Kutztown University head coach Joseph Ambrose said.

Although Kutztown is having some difficulty on the lanes, it plans to get back on track by focusing on tough shots and pullling in more pins.

The Golden Bears will take a lengthy break as they return back to action January 27, 2012 when it hosts the third consecutive Kutztown University Invitational. Last year, it was the nation's largest NCAA bowling tournament, which welcomed 13 of the nation's top-20 ranked teams to the Keystone State.
