MILLSBORO, DE. (November 19, 2011)—The Kutztown University bowling team is in 11th place at the UMES Hawk Classic hosted by the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, after Saturday's round of competition at Millsboro Lanes.
(RESULTS)
The Golden Bears (24-17 overall) went 4-1 on Saturday. Kutztown defeated Morgan State University, 921-895.
Kayla Jones (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop ) led with a 222. Kutztown defeated Howard University, 851-796 where
Rebecca Velazquez (Mohegan Lake, NY/Lakeland) led with a team-high 198.
The Golden Bears also got wins over Norfolk State, 935-778 and North Carolina A&T, 812-793. Against NSU, Jones finished with a 204 and
Brooke Bower (Camp Hill, PA/Cedar Cliff) rolled a 200. Jones finished with a team-high 192 against NC A&T.
Kutztown dropped its only game of the day to reigning NCAA Champion, UMES. KU fell 928-882 to the Hawks. However Jones, who had a stellar day on the lanes, led Kutztown with a 209.
Out of a field of 203 bowlers, Jones is currently second with a total pinfall of 1024 over five games. Her average on Saturday was 204.80.
Sunday's competition will consist of 3 best-of-seven baker matches beginning at 8:30 a.m.
