Golden Bears fall short in non-conference clash with Holy Family

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (October 31, 2011) – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team suffered a rare setback Monday night as it dropped a 3-2 non-conference match to Holy Family.  (BOXSCORE)

The Golden Bears (22-8 overall, 11-6 PSAC East) entered Monday's contest ranked eighth in the opening NCAA Atlantic Regional rankings.

KU found itself in a back-and-forth matchup against a fellow top program in Holy Family (22-10, 17-1 CACC).  Kutztown continued to respond to adversity, coming back to tie the match in the second and fourth games.  It battled all the way to the end before eventually dropping a 15-13 decision in the final game.  This was its first five-game loss of the season after winning its first seven.

Erin Kissling (York, PA/Central York) led the Golden Bears offensively for the fourth straight match.  The senior finished with 13 kills along with tallying 11 digs.  She leads the team with 249 kills this season averaging 2.42 per set.

Fellow senior Cali Snell (York, PA/York Suburban) had seven kills in the setback and has been solid for KU on both sides of the ball.  She had two and a half blocks Monday for a KU team currently leading the conference and second in Division II in blocks per game (2.67).  Senior Cait Hess (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) and freshman Danielle Van Buren (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) also added a block and a half.

Lindsey Smith (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) had 20 digs and moved into third place in KU history in career digs.  The senior has 1,513 career digs and is 39 behind Jamie Celia (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) for second place.  Kutztown leads the PSAC in digs per game (17.08) and Smith is second individually in the conference (5.52).

Junior setter Dana Wright (Warminster, PA/Saint Basil Academy) had a team-high 17 assists.

The Tigers had four players with double-digit kills.  Alyssa Keihl had a team-high 13 kills, followed by Jillian Keeve (12), Rebecca Tett (10) and Sarah Ambach (10).  Chelsea Keegan had a game-high 50 assists while adding 17 digs.

Kutztown looks to rebound on Friday, Nov. 4 as it hosts Cheyney in its final regular season home match.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
