Harman's career-high game leads KU to 3-1 win over Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (October 21, 2011)—Brittany Harman (Hanover, PA/South Western) of the Kutztown University volleyball team was more than amazing in KU's 3-1 win over Millersville University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game Friday evening at Pucillo Gymnasium. Kutztown (20-6 overall, 9-5 PSAC East) defeated Millersville (14-15 overall, 6-9 PSAC East) by set scores of 25-22, 25-19, and 25-23. KU dropped the second set, 25-21.

The Golden Bears capped their 20th victory of the season, marking its second consecutive season of 20 or more wins. KU is currently second in the Eastern Division.

Harman recorded a double-double finishing with a career-high 15 kills. She also added 10 digs against the Marauders. Harman, who has proved to be a consistent force for the Golden Bears this season, finished with a .333 hitting percentage on the night.

In the first set, with KU leading 21-20, Harman tallied three kills to lead KU to the win after MU's Brittany Lease had an attack error on the game point.

Cali Snell (York, PA/York Suburban) added nine kills in the victory while Erin Kissling (York, PA/Central York) finished with eight, followed by Cait Hess (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) with seven.

The Golden Bears did a terrific job on the front row and finished with 13 team blocks. Brianna Risch (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville), Snell, and Kissling each added a solo block while Katie Lutz (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle Antrim) finished with six block assists. Hess tallied seven block assists and Risch finished with three. Kutztown leads the PSAC in blocking averaging 2.63 blocks per game.

“We blocked very well tonight and that helped our defense and transition offense,” Kutztown University head coach John Gump said.

Lindsey Smith (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) finished with 25 digs and two service aces. Kutztown also leads the PSAC in digs (17.13/game). Kimberlee Gomber (Washington, PA/Washington) added 23 assists and Dana Wright (Warminster, PA/Saint Basil Academy) also finished with double-digit assists (14).

The Golden Bears are currently on a four-game winning streak and will continue their four-game road series when they travel to Shippensburg University on Saturday, Oct. 22. Game time is set for 1 p.m. In its upcoming games, KU will face Lock Haven University, East Stroudsburg University, and Holy Family University. Kutztown has a 5-2 record on the road this season.
