Late goal is difference in tough loss at IUP

INDIANA, Pa. (September 25, 2010) - The Kutztown University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match Saturday afternoon. (BOXSCORE)

Kutztown (6-2 overall, 3-2 PSAC) ranked 18th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, found itself in a game that was tied for all but 2 minutes, 24 seconds. Melissa Kornock scored her seventh goal of the year for IUP midway through the first half 34 seconds later, Kutztown responded with a goal by sophomore midfielder Julia DiFerdinando. This was DiFerdinando's second goal of 2010, which was assisted by Stephanie Borland.

The game stayed tied as both teams struggled to get shots on goal in the second half. With 1:50 remaining in the game, Carter Sheely scored an unassisted goal for IUP. The Golden Bears were unable to respond from there on as Kutztown will travel back home with an extra loss on their PSAC record.

Alyssa Hackelberg recorded three saves in the tough one-goal loss for the Golden Bears, and IUP goalkeeper Kelly Brennan had six.

Kutztown continues their road trip next weekend on Friday, October 1st at 4:00 p.m. against Shippensburg University.
