Kutztown volleyball announces three recruits

KUTZTOWN, PA (April 20, 2010) – The Kutztown University volleyball family is proud to announce the signings of three future Golden Bears to represent the maroon & gold in the coming years.

The class includes recruits Nicole Brumbley (Oxford, PA/Oxford) (Oxford, PA/Kennett), Liz DiValerio (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) and Chynna Gehman (Fleetwood, PA/Brandywine Heights) (Fleetwood, PA/Brandywine Heights).

“Although this class is not big, it addresses areas of need for both the coming season and the future,” Kutztown volleyball head coach John Gump said.  “All three players should fit very well athletically as well as into the culture we have tried to create in our program.  Nicole, Chynna and Liz are dedicated and hard-working and all three understand the challenge of moving to the next level of competition.  These players complete a roster which will give us the most competitive practice gym we have ever had.  I'm hopeful that environment will yield competitive success against a very tough schedule.”

Here's a little more information about our new family members:

Nicole Brumbley (Oxford, PA/Oxford)                    5'10    middle            Club Team: Liberty Belles

Coach Gump says: “Nicole is an athletic player who has the quickness to be effective in our offensive system. She has a fast arm and as she gets stronger has the potential to develop into a very good player for us.”

Liz DiValerio (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion)                         5'10     right side        Club Team: Valley Forge

Accomplishments: 2008 and 2009 AAA All-State selection; 2008 and 2009 First Team, All-District One

Coach Gump says: “Liz is a very talented and versatile player.  Although she projects as a right side for us she can also play on the left side if needed.  She is very solid ball handler and her ability to receive serve gives us the option to do some different things with our offense to create matchups we haven't been able to take advantage of before.”

Chynna Gehman (Fleetwood, PA/Brandywine Heights)                   5'6       LS       Club Team: X-Court

Accomplishments: 2009 AA All-State selection; 2009 PIAA State Championship All-Tournament team selection; 2009 District Three All-Star

Coach Gump says: “Chynna is an outstanding ball handler and defender in addition to be a very smart player on offense.  What she may lack in size she makes up for with her competitive nature and passion for the game.  In addition to her skills I look forward to the toughness she will bring to our gym in August.”
