KU lacrosse falls to Shippensburg in defensive battle

SHIPPENSBURG, PA (April 15, 2010) - The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team dropped a 9-4 decision at Shippensburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest on Thursday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Golden Bears had a second half charge of three-consecutive goals to pull within 6-4, but the Lady Raiders retaliated with three scores to end the comeback bid.

Kierstyn Mock began the offensive onslaught with a goal at 16:30, Jen Dunne recorded the assist and just over two minutes later Leann Pica tallied an unassisted goal. Gina Carmina scored the final goal for the Golden Bears off an 8-meter shot, it was her fifth score of the season.

Pica was in on the action all day, snagging six ground balls and handing out an assist on Lindsey Crits first half goal.

The Raiders received 11 saves from keeper Meghan Kearney and four different players recorded two goals.

picked up five ground balls to up her team-best total to 40 on the season. Goalkeeper Karly Waltman again turned in a strong performance, recording 17 saves to run her season total to 100. It was the third time in four games that Waltman made double-digit saves and broke her previous games season-high 14 saves against East Stroudsburg.

The Golden Bears will host Philadelphia University on Monday April 19 at 4 p.m. on Keystone Field for their home finale.
