Lynch delivers walk-off win against Fairmont State

SALEM, VA (March 20, 2010) - Katie Lynch delivered a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to give the Kutztown University softball team a 4-3 walk-off win over Fairmont State on Saturday afternoon at the Salem Invitational.

The dramatic endings have been quite common for the Golden Bears this season. This was KU's second consecutive walk-off victory. The Golden Bears improved to 7-4 overall in one run games. The Golden Bears moved to 18-8 overall with their second straight victory and 3-0 against Fairmount State this season.

Maria Isgro
got things started in the seventh with a single and was moved to second on a sacrifice by Jennifer Stow. Maria Schiavo picked up her second hit of the game with a single then stole second to get in scoring position and set the stage for Lynch's heroics.

The offense also had key contributions from
Brianna Knipe and Nicole Henninger. Knipe smacked her first home run of the season, while Henninger went 2-for-4 with a double.

Monica Glomb surrendered just one run on five hits, while striking out a season-high nine batters. Glomb improved her record to 3-3 on the season.

The Golden Bears put up a run in the first and sixth innings, while the Fighting Falcons added one in the fourth inning and two in the fifth.

KU will continue the Salem Invitational with a 5 p.m. contest against Seton Hill on Saturday evening. The tournament will conclude on Sunday with a 9 a.m. contest against the University of Charleston and Wheeling Jesuit at 1 p.m.
