Kutztown (9-0 overall, 6-0 PSAC East) is ranked 15th in both, the American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) and d2football.com top 25 polls. The Golden Bears are one of six undefeated teams in Division II. Bloomsburg (8-1, 6-0) is ranked 13th in the AFCA poll and 14th in the d2football.com poll. The Huskies have won eight straight games after dropping its season opener to Ashland.

The Golden Bears bring the PSAC's top scoring offense (41.1 points per game) into this week's contest. Meanwhile, the Huskies lead the PSAC in scoring defense (14.6 points). Bloomsburg has not allowed more than 24 points in any contest this season. Kutztown has not scored less than 33 points in a single game this year. This contest should be fun especially since the forecast is calling for snow flurries along with some wind.

The winner of this game advances to next week's PSAC championship contest at the PSAC West champion. Mercyhurst will host the PSAC title game if it beats Clarion. California will be site of the championship game if it beats Edinboro and Mercyhurst loses to Clarion. Stay tuned.

This game also potential NCAA postseason implications as both teams are ranked high in the Super Region One rankings that were released Monday. Kutztown is second and Bloomsburg is fifth.

Bloomsburg has enjoyed the upper hand in this series, winning 17 straight decisions. Kutztown's last victory over Bloomsburg was a 17-10 decision in 1992. Overall, Bloomsburg leads the all-time series, 42-20-1 after defeating the Golden Bears, 31-12, last year.

The Huskies have been the gold standard of the PSAC East, winning or sharing 10 PSAC East titles and earning six trips to the NCAA playoffs under head coach Danny Hale. Overall, Bloomsburg will be seeking its 16th PSAC championship while Kutztown will be shooting for its second and first since 1980.

In addition to showcasing the conference's top two scoring offenses, this contest also matches two of the best players in the PSAC East Division in Kutztown sophomore quarterback Kevin Morton and Bloomsburg freshman running back Franklyn Quiteh.

Both teams are coming off impressive victories last weekend. Kutztown scored 35 points in a span of 12 minutes, 56 seconds in the second half to erase a 13-point third quarter deficit and beat West Chester, 45-23. It was the second consecutive week; Kutztown has scored at least 40 points. Bloomsburg kicker Daniel Fisher made a school record five field goals to lead Bloomsburg to a 36-16 victory over C.W. Post.

Kutztown has arrived at this point of the season on the strength of its high-powered offense. The Golden Bears lead the PSAC in total offense (441.6) and passing offense (299.0). Kutztown has scored a point in 19 straight quarters and in 33 of the 36 it has played this season. The Golden Bears set a school record for points in a season with 370 in their 45-23 victory over West Chester last weekend.

Morton, who was named PSAC East Offensive Player of the Week, leads the conference in total offense (329.3), passing average (299.0) and passing efficiency (161.4). Morton had a career game against West Chester, completing a school record 35 passes for 451 yards – the second highest amount in Kutztown history and the PSAC this season – and a career best five touchdowns.

Overall, Morton completed 35-of-52 passes (67.3 percent) without an interception and was sacked just once. He has thrown a touchdown pass in 14 straight games. The five touchdown passes in a single game were the most by a KU quarterback since Tom Halcisak did it against Cheyney in 1992.

Fortunately for Morton, he is surrounded by plenty of offensive weapons in wide receivers Erik Frazier (Philadelphia, PA/Germantown) Jr. and Chris McCormick. They are the only set of wide receivers ranked in the conference top 10 in receptions per game and receiving yards per game. Frazier is fifth in receptions per game (5.2) and receiving yards per game (76.1). McCormick, who has finished with over 100 receiving yards in three straight outings, is eighth in receptions per game (4.9) and fourth in receiving yards per game (76.6). McCormick finished with a career-high 158 yards on nine catches against West Chester.

Defensively, Kutztown is sixth against the run (126.8) and eighth in scoring defense (21.7). The Golden Bears have been led by defensive end Kevin Bolinsky, who has 9.5 sacks this season and 20 for his career. Joel Irwin leads Kutztown with 68 tackles. Khalief Evans has 58 stops for the Golden Bears. Against West Chester, Jason Ulmer had an interception and Billy McMonigle recovered a fumble.

Meanwhile, Bloomsburg has used a punishing ground attack during its winning streak. Quiteh is the nation's leading rusher with 1,444 yards, which is first in the conference. He is also second in the PSAC in scoring (9.6 points per game) and touchdowns (14). He is averaging 6.4 yards per carry and 160.4 yards per game.

The Huskies lead the PSAC in rushing offense (259.1). Bloomsburg is also second in the conference in scoring offense (36.4) and turnover margin (+12). The Huskies are also third in the PSAC in total defense (262.2), total offense (410.4), rushing defense (99.9) and pass defense (162.3).

Bloomsburg's defensive leader has been Mike Varanavage, who was named PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. He is fifth in the PSAC in tackles per game (8.9). He helped the Huskies hold C.W. Post, who had over 700 yards of total offense against Kutztown, to just 277, by finishing with 11 tackles. It was the fifth time this season Varanavage had double-digit tackles.

Next week, both teams finish the 2010 regular season schedule. Kutztown is scheduled to visit Gannon for a noon kickoff and Bloomsburg is supposed to go Lock Haven. However, the winner of this game will play a different opponent.
