EDINBORO, PA (October 16, 2010) – The Kutztown University women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to four games Saturday night as it defeated Edinboro University 1-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup. (BOXSCORE)
Kutztown is ranked 23rd in the latest National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA)/ HendrickCars.com top 25 poll. KU is also fourth in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings.
The Golden Bears (10-3-1 overall, 7-3-1 PSAC) wasted no time finding the back of the net as Carolynne Kahl scored a goal from 16 yards out just 1 minute, 55 seconds into the game. Kahl was assisted by freshman Katie Sales.
Kahl leads the Golden Bears with six goals this season. In an offense that is ranked 34th in Division II in scoring (2.42), Kutztown has seen offensive production from numerous players as it has 13 players with at least one goal this season.
Freshman goalkeeper Casey Behrendt has continued to improve in her first season with Kutztown, as she earned her sixth win and third shutout of the season. Behrendt had seven saves.
Saturday night's win gave the Golden Bears their ninth straight season with double digit victories. With four games remaining, however, Kutztown will need to win as many games as possible to secure a postseason berth in the PSAC playoffs. Kutztown's win over Edinboro was also the 199th in the history of the women's soccer program.
Edinboro (8-4-1 overall, 5-4-1 PSAC) came into Saturday's contest ranked sixth in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region. Despite unloading 20 shots, Edinboro was unable to score thanks to the tenacity and toughness of the Kutztown defense.
Kutztown returns to action Tuesday night when it visits East Stroudsburg University beginning at 6 p.m. This will be KU's final regular season away contest.
