Feb. 20 - Game 2: Kutztown 16, Apprentice School 6

The Kutztown University baseball team scored in bunches as it topped Apprentice School 16-6 on Friday afternoon at the Builder Invitational. The game was halted after the eighth inning as the 10-run rule came into effect.

The Golden Bears (4-2) used the long ball to win as James Quigley (so. Bensalem/Bensalem) and Corey Buletza (so. St. Claire/Pottsville) each belted two-run homers, and Mark Renda (so. Lansdale/North Penn) added a three-run shot. The trio each recorded three hits, while Buletza added two stolen bases.

KU jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the fourth inning after Quigley's shot, before Apprentice narrowed the score to 9-6 in fifth. The Golden Bears followed that up with multiple run innings to run away with the game.

Matt Patteson (fr. Cedar Crest/Lebanon) left the game with a 9-6 lead, but did not last long enough to get the win. Anthony Fegely (so. Exeter/Exeter) finished last 3 2/3 innings allowing only two hits and recording three strikeouts to pick up the win.

Dominick Fantanarosa (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville) collected three hits, three RBIs and scored two runs. Mike Kacelowicz (jr. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) had two RBIs for the Golden Bears.

The teams combined for 30 hits, including eight that went for extra bases, and they each committed three errors.

Apprentice (3-1) was led by Kyle Center, who had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored. Designated hitter Chris Baker had three hits, while Bryce Beale had two hits and an RBI.

KU scored runs in seven of eight innings, including five that featured multiple runs.

The Golden Bears will continue at the Builder Invitational Saturday with two games. The first is at 9 a.m. against East Stroudsburg and the second at 6 p.m. against Bloomsburg.
