KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Kutztown University baseball team dropped its non-conference contest 9-4 to Adelphi on Thursday afternoon at North Campus Field.
Adelphi (22-12) broke open a 2-2 game with five runs in the seventh inning to run away with the game. They tacked on two runs in the eighth inning for a 9-2 advantage, which proved to be too much for KU.
The Golden Bears (30-12) got one run in the second after Matt Kulbacki (jr. Hershey/Hershey) got on base with a two-out single and advanced to second on a passed ball. Michael Dugan (so. Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) followed with an RBI single.
Dugan got things going in the fourth with a single and stolen base. He scored on a double down the left-field line by Brett Wigder (so. Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull).
KU added two runs in the ninth inning before Mike Colonna worked out of a bases loaded jam to end the game. In the inning, Corey Buletza (so. St. Claire/Pottsville) drew a bases loaded walk and Jared Frey (so. Mohrsville/Schuylkill Valley) had a sacrifice fly to left to score Dom Fantanarosa (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville).
Dugan led the offense going 2-for-3 and was the only KU batter with multiple hits.
Jason Herr (so. Harrisburg/C.D. East) pitched the first five innings, allowing only one run on four hits and striking out three to receive a no-decision.
