KU sets multiple records, claims at least share of PSAC East Crown

KUTZTOWN, Pa.Andre Woodlin (sr. Philadelphia/Central) scored 27 points to lead the Kutztown University men's basketball team to a school record 22nd win, 103-75 over Shippensburg University Saturday at Keystone Hall.

The Golden Bears built a lead early and never looked back in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East contest. KU (22-3, 11-1 PSAC East) secured at least a share of the PSAC East title by winning its school record 11th divisional game.

“That was our goal at the beginning of the year,” said KU head coach Bernie Driscoll, who tied the school record of 136 career coaching wins (Walt Risley, 1945-63). “It was nice to obtain the victory here at home, but it still isn't where we need to be. We have a heck of a game on Wednesday night.”

The Golden Bears will have the opportunity to clinch the PSAC East title outright when they host Cheyney at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

With Saturday's win, KU also extended its record winning streak to 11 games. Woodlin was one of three Golden Bears to score more than 20 points, as Stephen Dennis (West Chester, PA/Henderson) (jr. West Chester/Henderson) had 23 points and Dave Ben (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville) had 20. Ben also had eight rebounds and Dennis tied his career-high with nine assists.

Mark Bower (sr. West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) fueled the Golden Bears in the first half, scoring eight points in a span of two minutes, hitting a long jumper and two 3s. He finished with a career-high 15 points and three 3-pointers.

Ryan Washington (Philadelphia, PA/Wissahickon) (so. Philadelphia/Wissahickon) recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

KU took a 14-point lead into halftime at 48-34 and continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring the Red Raiders 55-41.

KU shot 48.6 percent in the game, including 56.3 percent in the second half. The Golden Bears held the advantage at the free-throw line, hitting 23-of-27. Dennis was 9-of-11 and Woodlin was 7-for-8.

Shippensburg (12-13, 4-8 PSAC East) was led by Derrick Graff, who scored 26 points and had nine rebounds. Lamar Drayton had 14 points and Ryan Kraft had 11.

The Golden Bears return to the court Wednesday against Cheyney. It will be KU's final regular season home game of the season.
