Golden Bears strong in season opener

READING, PA (October 24, 2009) — The Kutztown University women's bowling team opened up the 2009-10 season with a 4-1 record at the Kutztown Duals Saturday at Berks Lanes.The duals consisted of 5-game baker matches.

The Golden Bears opened up the day with an 870-793 win over Penn State-Altoona, followed by a 900-874 loss to dual champion St. Francis.

KU pulled out a 954-919 win against Adelphi before a dismantling Cheyney 902-566. The final match was the Golden Bears closest one, a 901-878 victory over St. Peters.

Kayla Stamm (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Steph Ray (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) were each named to the All-Tournament team which was selected following the dual.

Stamm had a 19.6 baker-frame average, which was the third highest overall. Ray averaged 18.69, the fifth highest.

The Golden Bears will travel to Elmwood Park, New Jersey for the Fright Night Invite on October 30 through November 1, hosted by Farleigh Dickinson.
