No. 15 Kutztown earns No. 4 Seed in NCAA Tournament, faces Wingate in first round

INDIANAPOLIS –  No. 15 Kutztown women's lacrosse is still dancing. The Golden Bears continued the momentum of their historic 2026 season by earning the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic Region and a chance to compete for a national championship, as announced Sunday night by the NCAA.

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference runner-up Golden Bears (14-6) are one of 24 teams fighting for the national title. Joining Kutztown in the Atlantic Region are (1) Slippery Rock, (2) East Stroudsburg, (3) West Chester, (5) Wingate, and (6) Frostburg State.

This marks the Golden Bears' third-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, making back-to-back trips in 2023, 2024, and now 2026 under head coach Kristen Nicholson. The Bears are on the hunt for win No. 15, which would tie the program record for victories in a single season set in 2024.

In the first round—the Atlantic Region quarterfinal—the No. 4-seeded Bears will face No. 5 seed and No. 16 nationally ranked Wingate (16-3) on Thursday, May 7, at 1 p.m. at Slippery Rock University. The winner of Thursday's matchup will advance to the second round—the regional semifinals—on Saturday, May 9, at 1 p.m., taking on No. 7 and top-seeded Slippery Rock.

On the other side of the regional bracket, No. 2 seed East Stroudsburg will host No. 3 seed West Chester and No. 6 seed Frostburg State in Thursday's other first-round matchup.

The highest remaining seed in the Atlantic Region after the first two rounds will host the regional final and NCAA quarterfinal on Saturday, May 16. The NCAA Division II semifinals and championship game will take place May 21 and May 23 at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York.

Ticket information, stats, video, and additional details will be available on kubears.com once announced.
