KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Goldey-Beacom overpowered the Kutztown University women's tennis team on its way to a 7-0 non-conference victory Saturday at the Keystone Courts.
Prior to the match, the Golden Bears recognized seniors
Alyson Witman (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood) and
Ryleigh Bohning (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) during a small on-court ceremony.
The visiting Lightning (6-9) swept doubles before capturing all six singles flights in straight sets.
Gabby Gentile (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and
Kendra Yerger (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) were a tough out at No. 3 doubles, winning four games in a 6-4 loss to Elina Mukhamadeeva and Ihsane Achouri.
The Golden Bears (4-7) played without No. 1
Isabela de Nadai (Vitoria, Brazil/St. Paul's School) in singles, but both seniors were able to draw into the lineup.
Goldey-Beacom won five of the six flights by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Bohning accounted for both of KU's game victories in singles in a 6-1, 6-1 setback against Nahomi Quinonez at No. 2.
Saturday's match was the first of four in a row at home for Kutztown. The Bears will host East Stroudsburg in a PSAC East match this coming Tuesday, April 7, at 4 p.m.
