Davis earns PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week after historic performance

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – No. 15 Kutztown senior defender Summer Davis (Beach Haven, N.J./Southern Regional) has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Defensive Athlete of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday, marking the Golden Bears' fourth PSAC weekly honor this season and third defensive award. Davis earned the recognition after a historic week that saw her move into second place all-time in program history for career caused turnovers.

Davis' record-breaking performance came in No. 15 Kutztown's 16-5 victory over Shippensburg, where she recorded a career-high seven caused turnovers—tied for fourth-most in a single game in program history. The dominant outing pushed Davis to 138 career caused turnovers, moving her past Sam Graf's (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) previous mark of 132 and into second place all-time at Kutztown, trailing only Courtney O'Neill (159, 2014-2017).

The senior also collected five ground balls in the Shippensburg matchup, tied for the game high with teammate Alexis Plesic (Hanover, Pa./South Western), and added a draw control as the Golden Bears held the Raiders to just five goals. Earlier in the week against No. 11 West Chester at Keystone Field, Davis contributed two caused turnovers, two ground balls, and one draw control.

The recognition caps an outstanding season for Davis, who leads Kutztown in all major defensive categories with 34 ground balls, 31 caused turnovers, and 26 draw controls. The senior currently ranks 20th in all of NCAA Division II in caused turnovers per game, averaging 2.38, while sitting fifth in the PSAC in caused turnovers per game and seventh in the conference in ground balls per game.

In addition to her second-place standing in career caused turnovers, she sits sixth all-time at Kutztown with 163 career ground balls, just four behind Emily Smith (167, 2016-2019).

Kutztown (8-5, 4-4 PSAC East) returns to action Wednesday, April 15, traveling to Millersville for a 4 p.m. matchup.
