Â
Kutztown 7, Holy Family 4
Â
Kutztown began its home portion of the schedule in a positive light and never trailed in the opener, taking leads of 1-0 after one, 3-0 after three, 6-0 after five and 7-0 heading to the seventh, before Holy Family put up a four-run frame before Gravish officially closed the door on the Tigers recording the final out.
Â
Slomkowski, who finished with team-highs of three hits and four RBIs, accounted for the Golden Bears' first four runs, recording an RBI single in the top of the first, blasted her second HR of the season, a two-run shot over the left center field fence in the bottom of the third, and then added another run-scoring single in the fifth to push KU's advantage to 4-0.
Â
Schulz tacked on more in the fifth with a two-run double to left center and then Stevens capped the scoring, racing home on a wild pitch in the sixth.
Â
Needing just three outs in the top of the seventh for the shutout, Gravish experienced some trouble from the Tigers lineup as they tallied three of their four hits of the game in the inning and brought seven batters to the plate, with the highlight of the four-run inning, a three-run HR from Kylee Jones. Gravish induced an out the next batter to preserve the victory.
Â
Kocher and Schulz each finished with two hits and Stevens tripled and scored two runs. Ashley and Collins both had a hit.
Â
Gravish went the distance, striking out a season-high eight batters to earn her sixth win of the season.
Â
Kutztown 11, Holy Family 3 (6 innings)
Â
Kutztown made sure to leave no doubt in this one and put the game out of reach early. After allowing an opening inning run in the top of the first inning, the Maroon and Gold hit around the lineup, as 13 batters came to the plate of an eight-run frame that featured eight hits and 10 batters reaching base safely.
Â
Highlights of the bottom of the first include an RBI double by Henn and run-scoring singles from Stevens, Ashley, Paetow and Madara, as KU took a commanding 8-1 advantage after one.
Â
Holy Family got two runs back in the top of the third before Henn answered, singling home Collins, who led off the bottom of the third with a double to take a 9-3 lead.
Â
Slabicki sat down the Tigers' lineup in order in the fourth and sixth innings before her team finished off the victory in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Stevens singled up the middle. Next stepped up Slomkowski, who delivered her second long ball of the day and third of the season, over the center field wall.
