MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The 18th-ranked Kutztown University wrestling team dominated from wire-to-wire on Friday night, earning five of its seven victories by fall, as it defeated the Millersville Marauders, 36-12, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference dual inside Pucillo Gymnasium.
The Golden Bears (4-4, 2-2 PSAC) returned to a .500 record in dominant fashion, opening the day with a pair of pins and quickly finishing things off with two first-period pins in the final two bouts. While the Marauders (3-6, 1-5 PSAC) won three of four matchups after the two opening falls, Kutztown locked down in the back half to win its 16th straight over Millersville.
Redshirt juniors
Nic Allison (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) and
Javien DeLeon (Allentown, Pa./Liberty), the 125 and 133-pound grapplers who are likely to get a look from the National Wrestling Coaches Association in the next individual rankings, secured pins in the third and second periods, respectively.
Aliazer Alicea (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) picked up his first dual victory of the season with a pin of his own at 149 pounds, stretching the team's lead to 18-3 after four bouts.
After a pair of Millersville grapplers combined for nine team points at 157 and 165-pounds, 13th-ranked
Dalton Gimbor (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) and eighth-ranked
Cole Casilio (Wilcox, Pa./Johnsonburg) claimed identical, 7-2 decisions for three team points apiece to put the dual away.
Seventh-ranked 197-pound
Wayne McIntyre (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) and 285-pound
Freddie Retter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) bounced back from tough outings last weekend and secured falls against their Millersville counterparts, making quick work in the first period to conclude the night.
For 25th-year head coach
Robert Fisher, this marks his 256th career dual victory in
what was announced as his final season at the helm of  the Kutztown wrestling team, of which he is the winningest coach in the program's 63-year history.
The Golden Bears will look to carry the road momentum into its next dual against the Shippensburg Raiders on Friday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. inside Heiges Field House. The Golden Bears return to Keystone Arena for Senior Night the following Tuesday, Feb. 17, when its hosts East Stroudsburg at 7 p.m.
