BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Kutztown men's tennis won matches at third doubles and sixth singles but Bloomsburg sent the Golden Bears to their second straight conference defeat, 6-1, Thursday afternoon at the Burt Reese Tennis Center.
With the setback, the Golden Bears fall to 11-4 overall and 1-3 in PSAC play. Bloomsburg remained unbeaten in league play at 3-0 and improved to 8-2 on the season.
KU gained an early edge when
Joaquin Perez (Pachuca, Mexico/Escuela Americana) and
Terrell Arejola (Quezon City, Philippines/Southville International School and Colleges) downed Fernando Barros and Jaime Soria, 6-1, at third doubles. The Huskies were able to overcome the loss with a 6-2 victory from Denis Dementev and Iu Casamitjana at No. 2 and a 6-3 win from its top flight pairing of Vishesh Patel and Sergio Dilan to secure the doubles point and a 1-0 lead in the match.
The first five points in singles went to Bloomsburg as they built an insurmountable advantage. Perez took Albert Martin to three sets at No. 4 before falling 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Henrique Rocha (Jaticua, Brazil/Escola SEB Maceio) forced a first set tiebreaker against Casamitjana at No. 3 but came up short in a 7-6 (4), 6-4 defeat.
Vennekold outlasted Soria at No. 6 to collect Kutztown's only point of the day with a 4-6, 7-6 (3), 10-8 victory in a super tiebreaker.
The Maroon and Gold step out of conference for the last time this season when they take on Muhlenberg on the road in Allentown on Friday at 3 p.m.
