WILMINGTON, Del. -- Sophomore
Bieke Roovers (Leiden, Netherlands/Leonardo College) was a straight set winner at second singles for the Kutztown University women's tennis team but 47th-ranked Goldey-Beacom emerged victorious in the eight remaining matches to pick up a 6-1 victory over the Golden Bears at the Delcastle Tennis Center Tuesday afternoon.
Roovers, last year's PSAC East Freshman of the Year, improved to 6-2 on the year and 6-1 in duals with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Zehra Canbaz. Unfortunately for the Maroon and Gold, Roovers' win came with the match already decided and Kutztown (2-5) trailing 5-0.
The host Lightning (13-4) dropped just six games combined across three flights to sweep doubles and captured each of its five singles wins in straight sets. No. 3
Ximena Bolanos (Mineral de la Reforma, Mexico/Colegio Makarenko) and No. 4
Isabela de Nadai (Vitoria, Brazil/St. Paul's School) each won five games in their respective singles matches. Bolanos fell to Nahomi Quinonez 6-3, 6-2 and de Nadai dropped her match against Sofia Lopez 6-2, 6-3.
Kutztown will try to pick up its first win of the spring when it hosts Shippensburg to kick off PSAC East play on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
