KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The 20th ranked Kutztown University wrestling team remains perfect inside Keystone Arena, defeating the Millersville Marauders 27-12 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference dual on Friday night to give head coach Robert Fisher his 250th career dual victory in his 24th season at the helm of the program.
The Golden Bears (9-1, 3-1 PSAC) picked up several extra point victories from the usual contributors while winning seven of ten bouts over the Marauders (12-6, 3-3 PSAC) to claim their third straight victory on the season. This is the Golden Bears' 14th consecutive win over the Marauders, dating back to 2010.
Javien DeLeon (Allentown, Pa./Liberty) claimed the lone victory for KU in the first four bouts, scoring a takedown to secure a 9-5 decision at 133 pounds. The Maroon and Gold regained focus in the latter six bouts, starting with a 5-1 decision by Aliazer Alicea (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) at 157 lbs. and capped off with another decision from 285-pound Freddie Retter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) in a 9-7 battle.
A trio of technical falls earned the Golden Bears bonus points in the heavier weight classes, as No. 12 Bailey Gimbor (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) (15-0 at 165 lbs.), No. 2 Matthew Weinberg (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) (19-4 at 184 lbs.) and Wayne McIntyre (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) (15-0 at 197 lbs.) scored a combined 15 team points for KU. 10th-ranked Dalton Gimbor's (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) last-second takedown secured the win at 174 lbs.
Kutztown opened the dual meet with a pair of exhibition bouts, as Joey Ortega (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) earned a major decision win (17-4) at 141 pounds, while Hunter Horton (James Creek, Pa./Tussey Mountain) earned a 12-7 decision at 157 lbs. for the Golden Bears.
Fisher's 250th win comes in his 364th dual at Kutztown, as the program's all-time winningest head coach boasts a record of 250-112-2 since his debut at the turn of the century. His coaching methods clearly haven't lost their magic, as his current .900 winning percentage in 2024-25 is the second-best mark in his career, only trailing a 14-1 record (.933 winning percentage) from 2018-19.
The Golden Bears will honor the senior class at their final home dual of the season next Friday, February 14th at 7 p.m., when they host Shippensburg inside Keystone Arena.
