KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The 20th-ranked Kutztown University wrestling team went a perfect 9-0 in contested matches in their 39-6 victory over the Shippensburg Raiders in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference dual on Friday night inside Keystone Arena.
The Golden Bears (10-1, 4-1 PSAC) commemorated their six seniors and head coach Robert Fisher's 250th win from last Friday prior to the dual, putting an exclamation on the night with five technical fall victories and nine head-to-head wins over their conference foe.
Andreo Ferraina (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) (19-3 at 133 lbs.) and Joey Ortega (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) (18-3 at 141 lbs.) each secured five team points for KU after the opening forfeit at 125, while No. 10 Dalton Gimbor (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) (19-4 at 174 lbs.), No. 2 Matthew Weinberg (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) (22-6 at 184 lbs.) and Wayne McIntyre (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) (19-0 at 197 lbs.) collected five team points apiece, while 285-pound Dustin Swanson (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) closed out the dual with a 1-0 decision via riding time.
15th-ranked 149 pound Jimmy Ryan (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) and 157 pound Hunter Horton (James Creek, Pa./Tussey Mountain) each turned in 9-0 major decision victories, while 12th-ranked Bailey Gimbor (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) battled to an 11-5 decision at 165 pounds.
Seniors Ferraina, Ryan, Swanson and Weinberg were honored alongside fellow KU grapplers Sean Smith (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle), Bryce Buckman (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and Brendan Smay prior to the victory.
The Golden Bears close out the regular season on the road at East Stroudsburg on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. inside the Koehler Fieldhouse.
