KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The sixth-ranked Kutztown University wrestling team defeated the Seton Hill Griffins 34-6 on Friday night in the first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference dual of the season inside Keystone Arena.
The Golden Bears (1-0, 1-0 PSAC) opened the night with two pins in its first three matchups and wrapped up the afternoon with five straight wins over the Griffins (1-1, 0-1 PSAC), securing its seventh consecutive season-opening dual victory in front of a strong crowd on a cold evening outside.
Kutztown's lightweight wrestlers opened the evening with a bang, as 125-pound Nic Allison (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County), 133-pound Javien DeLeon (Allentown, Pa./Liberty) and 141-pound Joey Ortega (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) each picked up bonus points as they secured a pair of falls and a major decision, pushing the score to 16-0 before the visitors could get on the board.
After dropping back-to-back weight classes in the following two rounds, No. 3 Bailey Gimbor (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) and No. 6 Dalton Gimbor (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) picked up one-point decisions over their Seton Hill counterparts at 165 and 174, which was followed by a 13-3 major decision by eighth-ranked 184-pound Cole Casilio (Wilcox, Pa./Johnsonburg) in his Keystone Arena debut.
Seventh-ranked 197-pound grappler Wayne McIntyre (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) never let off the gas in his 18-1 technical fall victory in four and a half minutes, and graduate student Dustin Swanson (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) got off to a quick start in his 5-2 win over Michael Gibson to close out the night in the heavyweight class.
The win tonight marks the sixth consecutive dual win for the Golden Bears, a run that started early last season. It is also KU's fifth straight dual victory over the Griffins, a team it holds an 11-2 all-time record against.
The Golden Bears return to the mats in 2026 for the Virginia Duals, a two-day event at the Hampton Coliseum on Friday, Jan. 9, and Saturday, Jan. 10. KU returns to Keystone Arena the following Friday, Jan. 16, when it takes on nationally-ranked Pitt-Johnstown at 7 p.m. in its second of six PSAC duals.
