KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown athletics is in the midst of an historic 2025-26 year, with KU football still competing. The Golden Bears sit on top of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Dixon Cup standings following the fall season with an overall average of 13.92.
Â
The 13.92 points is 1.42 points higher than the second place school, East Stroudsburg. The rest of the top five includes West Chester in third (12.38), IUP in fourth (11.00) and Gannon in fifth (10.93). KU men averaged 16.00 points and the women had a 13.92 average.
Â
Kutztown has won the Cup just once, following the 2005-06 season. Last year, the Maroon and Gold finished seventh overall in the standings. The Golden Knights finished first.
Â
Golden Bear football is the highest ranked team in the department with 17 points, winning the PSAC title. They are currently one of just eight teams left in Division II still playing. Women's soccer has the second-highest total with 16 points, earning a runner-up finish in the PSAC Tournament for the second straight season. Field Hockey and men's cross country each recorded 15 points. FH had an historic season with a program-record 20 victories and was runner-up in the PSAC Tournament and a semifinalist at NCAA Championships. Men's XC netted a program-best five All-Conference runners and tied its best finish at PSAC Championships in third. Golden Bear women's cross country was tabbed with 13 points, placing fifth at PSACs, and women's volleyball rounded out the KU teams with 7.5 points, finishing with 15 wins, the most in a single season since 2011.
Â
This year marks the 29th occasion the PSAC has recognized a Dixon Trophy recipient, awarded annually to the institution that accumulates the top score based on results of conference playoffs and/or regular-season records. The trophy is named in honor of F. Eugene Dixon, Jr., former chairman of the Board of Governors of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education.
Â
The award is given to the program which generates the top average point value among each PSAC Championship sport it sponsors. Each sport champion earns 17 points - based on the league's membership total - and descending point values are awarded for respective placement.
Â
Dixon Trophy points are awarded based on 17 PSAC schools, with 17 points going to the champion in each sport and 16 going to the runner-up, and so on. When fewer than 17 schools compete in a sport, the points awarded for that sport are prorated accordingly.
