LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – After a successful, five bout outing at Saturday's Bridgeport Open, seventh-ranked 197-pound grappler
Wayne McIntyre (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) of the sixth-ranked Kutztown University wrestling team was named the Wrestling Athlete of the Week by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference on Tuesday afternoon.
McIntyre wrestled to a 5-0 record in Connecticut that featured four pins – all of which came in under a minute. The East Stroudsburg, Pa., native pinned his first opponent in 34 seconds, the fastest of the four falls and among the fastest of his career.
The redshirt junior scored a 21-3 technical fall victory in the fourth round, his lone non-pin victory of the Saturday. He was one of five KU grapplers to finish at the top of their weight class, leading the team to the best finish at the tournament.
He picked up his first Wrestler of the Week honor after earning a pair of recognitions a season ago. McIntyre headlined four of Kutztown's five ranked competing student-athletes that secured first-place finishes in its third tournament of the season.
The Golden Bears open conference dual competition on Friday, Dec. 5, when they host Seton Hill inside Keystone Arena at 7 p.m.
