Field Hockey Falls in NCAA Semifinals

Box Score

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Kutztown University field hockey team scored the first goal of the game, but Shippensburg answered with three straight on its way to a 3-1 victory over KU in an NCAA semifinal game Friday afternoon at Steph Pettit Stadium on the campus of Bloomsburg University.

The Golden Bears conclude their season with a 20-2 record, a school record for wins in a season. They made their third consecutive appearance in the final four at NCAAs, winning the title in 2023 and finishing runner-up last season. It's their eighth overall appearance in the national tournament.

Senior Grace Harrold (York, Pa./Central York) tallied the lone goal for her team, her fifth of the season, coming in the 13th minute off an assist by classmate and fellow captain, Erin Gonzalez (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot). That duo, along with Olivia Vaccari (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), Sierra Jester (Felton, Del./Lake Forest), Olivia Osborne (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) and Alaina Telenko (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) finished up their illustrious careers Friday, but are able to hold their heads high with the status they leave the program in.

The Raiders responded to Harrold's goal within just 1:15, as Lilly Cantabene netted the first of her two goals on the day to tie the score at 1-1. Mckenna Boyle found the back of the cage in the second quarter and Cantabene added her second in the third to round out the scoring.

Tess Adolf (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence) made five saves in cage.

Kutztown outshot Shippensburg 14-11 overall, but the teams each had eight shots on cage. KU edged Ship in penalty corners, 12-5.

PSAC Coach of the Year, head coach Marci Scheuing, will bring back a ton of talent and experience next season, led by All-PSAC performers in Freshman of the Year Adolf, Marissa Rice (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), Jessica Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), Taylor Vaccaro (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) and PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Year Olivia Kirkpatrick (Annville, Pa./Palmyra).

The Raiders (19-3 overall) and top seed, Newberry (20-0), meet in the national championship game on Sunday, Nov. 23.
