Kutztown opens home slate with victory over Penn State Schuylkill

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown women's basketball stepped on its home court for the first time in the new season and showed out in front of its crowd in a big way, dispatching of Penn State Schuylkill 105-36 Wednesday evening in a non-conference game inside Keystone Arena.

The Golden Bears (2-1 overall) won for the second time in-a-row after splitting two games over the weekend at the PSAC/MEC Challenge at West Chester University.

All 15 rostered players entered the game and scored points, led by a season-high 17 points from Maggie Coleman (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights). Josephine Vourliotis (Manchester, England/Stretford Grammar School) finished with 14 points. Madison Siggins (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) recorded 13 points and Stella Higgins (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) rounded out the quartet in double figures with 11 points. Leila Hurley (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) scored eight points and both Danae Ellzy (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) and Kitty Randa (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) had seven points. Jadyn Brenneman (New Fairfield, Conn./Western Reserve Academy) contributed six points and both Bella Quinn (Ashland, Ky./Russell) and Taylor Gurysh (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) had five. Ryanna Hightower-Prentice (Laureldale, Pa./Muhlenberg) tacked on four points and Alexa Windish (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) had three. Both Ariana Smuda (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) and Olivia Smelas (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) finished with two points and Nadia Yemola (Harleysville, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) rounded out the scoring with one point.

Kutztown put the game out of reach early, scoring the first 12 points of the game and taking a 25-4 lead after the opening quarter. The Maroon and Gold defense did not allow a field goal until there was 1:05 left in the opening frame. 10 different Golden Bears etched their names in the score column during the first 10 minutes of action.

By halftime, it was 57-10 in favor of the hosts and head coach Janet Malouf was able to sit the starting five the rest of the game.

The Golden Bears connected on 15 3-pointers, tied for the most in a game since a Nov. 26, 2024, win over Penn State Lehigh Valley.

Kutztown will be at home for its next three games on a current four-game homestand. KU will host Jefferson this Saturday, Nov. 23, at 4 p.m.
