Golden Bears highlighted in first NCAA DII Football Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS -- Kutztown University was among 10 teams from Super Region One to appear in the NCAA's first set of regional rankings for the 2025 season, the national organization announced this week.

The Golden Bears, ranked No. 3 in the latest D2Football.com Top 25 and No. 4 in the AFCA Division II Coaches Poll, are the only unbeaten team in Super Region One and one of seven remaining undefeated teams in Division II.

The first edition of the regional rankings are unranked, with teams under consideration for the NCAA DII Football Championship field listed in alphabetical order. Kutztown is the lone representative from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's (PSAC) Eastern Division, while California (Pa.), IUP and Slippery Rock made the initial list from the PSAC West.

Kutztown's season-opening opponent, Assumption, also made the rankings from the Northeast 10. The Golden Bears defeated the Greyhounds 51-14 back on Sept. 4, Assumption's only loss of the season to date.

Super Region One is made up of schools from the PSAC, Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA), Mountain East Conference (MEC) and the Northeast-10 (NE10).

The NCAA expanded the DII Championship field to 32 teams in 2025, up from 28 in 2024. The change adds automatic qualifying bids for 16 conference champions and eliminates first round byes for the top seed in each of the four super regions. The remaining 16 named to the playoff field will be at-large selections. Eight teams from each super region will qualify.

Next week's regional rankings will be the first set where teams are numerically ranked.

Kutztown (8-0) can wrap up its third consecutive PSAC East title with a win over East Stroudsburg at Andre Reed Stadium this coming Saturday, Nov. 1. Kickoff is at noon. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
